Salmon Tacos with Mango Salsa

I’ve always loved salmon, and tacos, but hadn’t quite gotten around to trying salmon tacos yet. But, I’m so glad I did, because these salmon tacos with mango salsa are delicious and also super easy to prepare. If you marinate the salmon overnight, it comes together even quicker for a busy weeknight meal. The spicy mango salsa is the perfect addition to these flaky and tender salmon tacos.

Ingredients

These are the main ingredients you’ll need to make these salmon fish tacos, and of course, if you’d like extra garnishes, those are great too. Feel free to choose your own adventure, I happen to like shredded cabbage, radish, cubed avocado and a crema to cool things off.

Salmon: I recommend buying high quality fresh, wild caught salmon. Be sure to have the skin removed and pin bones removed as well.

Smoked Paprika: probably my most used spice of all time! I love the smokiness of it on these roasted salmon tacos.

Ancho Chili Powder: unlike chili powder which is a blend of of peppers and spices, ground ancho chili powder is ancho (or poblano) only. This gives it a more distinct taste, I prefer it over chili powder, but chili powder will work too.

Tajín seasoning: this adds so much flavour to marinades, dressings, dips and this salmon. See substitutions for other options.

Honey: to add a little touch of sweetness to the salmon and help it broil.

Mango: for the mango salsa, you’ll need 1 to 2 mangos, cubed. I prefer ataulfo mangos.

Red onion: for the mango salsa

Serrano Pepper: for the mango salsa to add heat.

Cilantro/Mint leaves: to add freshness to the mango salsa.

Tacos: soft tacos are great.

How to Make Salmon Tacos

These salmon tacos with mango salsa are ridiculously easy to make. Whether you’ve marinated the salmon overnight or not, you can still have these tacos ready in about 30 minutes.

The first thing you’ll need to do is toss the cubed salmon with the seasonings.

Next, you’ll combine the ingredients for the mango salsa in a bowl and set that aside. Heat the oven to broil.

Prep any garnishes you’ll be using. Finely chop the cabbage, or use a mandolin to shred it. I prefer a mandolin for the cabbage and radish (plus it makes life easier). This is the mandolin I have and use (and love it!)

Heat your oven to broil and toss the cubed salmon on a greased baking sheet.

Broil the salmon until it’s cooked through to your liking. It should take around eight to ten minutes, max.

Assemble your tacos and enjoy!

Substitutions

  • Mango: if you can’t find mango, this is also delicious with pineapple.
  • Tajín seasoning: use another chili/lime seasoning blend, or something similar, like this Trader Joe’s Chili Lime seasoning.
  • Gluten-free: use gluten-free tacos.
  • No spice/serrano pepper: omit the serrano, or use jalapeño instead (it’s milder), or remove the seeds.
  • No salmon: this is delicious with other types of fish such as snapper or cod.

Tips

  • Marinate the salmon: if you marinate the salmon ahead of time this saves some time, in addition to making the fish even more flavourful.
  • Prep the mango salsa: you can have the mango salsa ready ahead of time as well, up to one day in advance.
  • Add some crunch: these tacos taste best served with some crunchy veggies, such as finely shredded cabbage and radish. Shredded carrot would also be great too.
  • Grease your baking sheet: I don’t use parchment paper often if I don’t need to. But if you don’t want a huge mess to clean up, or to spend time scrubbing your baking sheet, I recommend using good quality, light coloured baking sheets like these ones (I love them and own two, they are the BEST!).
  • Use a mandolin: this will get your veggies perfectly sliced and thin. This is the mandolin I have and love it.
