High Protein Chocolate Mousse with Greek Yogurt

This creamy, luscious mousse is secretly healthy and packs some serious protein with every bite. You're going to love this easy greek yogurt chocolate mousse when you're craving something sweet and chocolatey. That's because although this high protein chocolate mousse is healthy and packed with good for you ingredients, it also tastes like an absolute dream. Creamy, rich, smooth and mousse like, it's your new favourite dessert. After trying it, I've made it countless times and I love having it on hand in the fridge when a chocolate craving hits. Topping it with berries, a little extra chocolate shaving and it will feel and taste so indulgent, you'll be left wondering how this is actually healthy. But it is and it's incredible!

Ingredients

Here's everything you'll need to make this high protein chocolate mousse with Greek yogurt.

How to Make Protein Chocolate Mousse

Fill a small pot about halfway with water and place a heat safe bowl over top. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat and add the chopped chocolate to the bowl. Melt the chocolate, stirring often and then set the bowl aside and let it cool slightly.

In a stand mixer with the whisk attachment, add the yogurt, cocoa powder, protein powder, cooled chocolate, honey, milk, vanilla and salt.

Turn the mixer on and whip until well combined and smooth.

Tips

  • Let the chocolate cool: after melting the dark chocolate, it's important to let it cool slightly before adding it to the cold greek yogurt. This allows the chocolate to whip into the yogurt easily, creating luscious, smooth and delicious mousse.
  • Milk: depending on the percentage of fat in your Greek yogurt, start by adding a small splash of milk. If the yogurt is full fat, you'll need a little more milk. If you're using a no fat yogurt, you don't need to use any milk.
  • Yogurt type: I prefer making this with a full fat yogurt as I find it more filling, creamy and rich. However, I've also used no fat yogurt plenty of times and it's still very good. Just don't use any milk if using a no fat yogurt.
  • Protein powder: using a small amount of whey protein powder adds a little extra boost of protein and you won't taste it. If you don't have any, feel free to omit.
  • Dark chocolate: use a dark chocolate that you enjoy, I recommend using one around 70%.

Substitutions

  • Honey: depending on your taste preference, feel free to omit the honey for a less sweet mousse, or add a little more if you want it sweeter.
  • Protein powder: using a small amount of whey protein powder adds a little extra boost of protein and you won't taste it. If you don't have any, feel free to omit.
  • Dairy-free: although I haven't tested it, a full fat coconut yogurt could work instead of regular greek yogurt.
  • Dark chocolate: feel free to use semi sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips instead.
  • No stand mixer: use a handheld mixer, or as I do, an immersion blender with the standing jar and the whisk attachment. I love this immersion blender.

This recipe makes four servings (about 1/2 cup per serving) and contains 14 g of protein per serving. This is based off of the chocolate mousse on it's own, without the additional berries.

If you want a little more protein, feel free to add more protein powder. But remember, this is a dessert and should be enjoyed as a treat ;)

Immersion blender:

I love using this cordless immersion blender from Cuisinart for blending and puréeing sauces, soups and dressings. Specifically, with this recipe, I use the standing jar with the whisk attachment to blend everything.
