Air Fryer Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings

If you love crispy chicken wings, then you'll absolutely want to try making these air fryer lemon pepper wings. They get so crispy in the air fryer, plus it's quick to make and great for preparing a smaller batch. Once they come out of the air fryer, toss them in a buttery lemon pepper sauce and watch them disappear. Serve them with a side of my creamy garlic parmesan dip for even more flavour.

I love making air fryer chicken wings, you can check out these air fryer Mexican inspired chicken wings here. Making wings in the air fryer creates a crispy skin that has a similar taste and texture to fried chicken wings. If you'll be making a big batch to serve to a crowd, I do think baking them in the oven is more efficient. They take longer to bake, but you will be doing less batches, so it works out to be the same more or less anyways.

Ingredients

Here's everything you'll need to make these air fryer lemon pepper chicken wings with creamy garlic parmesan dip.

Why Baking Powder?

You can check out this article for more info on how and why baking powder creates crispy chicken skin.

Ideally, you'll want to let the wings sit and marinate with the spices and baking powder for a few hours. But, if you don't have time for that, no worries!

And last, be sure to use aluminum free baking powder so there isn't a strong taste. And be sure to use baking powder, NOT baking soda.

Once the wings are done, brush with the butter mixture and serve with the dip on the side. Garnish with parsley. Serve and enjoy!

What to Serve with Chicken Wings?

By all means, you can serve these air fryer lemon pepper wings on their own without a dip. But I love a good dip on the side!

And this creamy, garlic parmesan dip is unbelievably good served with these lemon pepper chicken wings.

It's so good, you'll be wanting to make it again and again anytime you set out to make crispy wings.

How to Make in the Oven

You can absolutely make these air fryer lemon pepper chicken wings in the oven.

Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towel and place in a large bowl. Add the baking powder, garlic powder and a small pinch of salt. Toss to combine.

Preheat the oven to 425ºF. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil (or parchment paper) and place a wire rack over top (this helps things stay clean). I love using this baking sheet with the rack over top.

Spray the rack with avocado oil spray.

Arrange on the rack in a single layer. Bake for 45 minutes, turning about halfway through.

Remove and brush with the butter sauce and serve with the dip.

How to Get Extra Crispy Air Fryer Wings

  • Pat the chicken wings dry: this helps make sure they get crispy.
  • Don't overcrowd the air fryer: you want to be sure to space them out in one layer, it's ok if they touch a little, but don't put them on top of one another or overcrowd. It's best to work in batches.
  • Keep them warm in the oven: this is the best option when you're working in batches. I like using a wire rack over top of a baking sheet (I use this one) to keep them crispy. You can also reheat them all in your air fryer when you're done with all the batches.

Recipe Notes:

  • Lemon pepper seasoning: the amount of salt in the brand you use varies from one to the next. This is why I suggest only lightly seasoning the chicken wings with salt prior to baking. Depending on how salty (or not) the lemon pepper seasoning you're using is, adjust the salt to your taste.
  • Prep the dip in advance: you can make the garlic parmesan dip a few days in advance if you like and keep it stored in the fridge until you're ready to use it.
  • Whole or split wings: use whichever you prefer. I usually buy whole wings because I like them better, you do you!

Which Air Fryer Do I Use & Recommend

I've tried three different air fryers over the years, and my most recent is also my favourite.

It's the Wonder Oven from Our Place. I absolutely love it and highly recommend it, for several reasons.

  • Aesthetically pleasing: as with all Our Place products, the design is unmatched. This means you can leave it out on your countertop and don't need to hide it away in a cluttered drawer.
  • Non-toxic: the trays that come with the Wonder Oven are all non-toxic and made from stainless steel and aluminum with a toxin-free nonstick ceramic coating. This is SO hard to find with other types of air fryers and is the main reason I use it so much.
  • Different cooking modes: this is not just an air fryer, it can air fry, bake, toast, roast, reheat and broil. I also love the steam function for bringing breads back to life.
  • Compact size: I love how small and mighty it is. It won't take up much room on your countertops, something that was so important to me living in a condo with limited countertop space.

The only drawbacks I've noticed while using this is the timer function. It's not digital and can be hard to be precise when using it. So I prefer to just use the timer on my oven or microwave when using it to be sure it's exact. The knob also has to be turned off manually by turning it rather than having an on/off switch.

But honestly, other than those missing features, it's such a great appliance and I do recommend it.

Ingredients & Products I Recommend:

I share these products to show you what I choose to use in my kitchen as staple ingredients I use daily (or weekly). So if you opened up my fridge (or pantry), here's what you'll find!

Kosher salt:

I exclusively use Diamond Crystal kosher salt for all of my recipes. I prefer the texture, taste and consistency of this brand and highly recommend it for everyday cooking.

Mayonnaise:

If I don't make my own at home (you can see how I make it here), I primarily use Chosen Foods avocado oil mayonnaise, or Sir Kensignton's.

Avocado Oil Spray:

I prefer using avocado oil for high heat cooking. I love using Chosen Foods avocado oil and their avocado oil spray.
