how to grow your online business

If you would have told me I’d be writing a blog post about how to grow your online business a few years ago, I would have thought you were crazy. When I started school at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition (IHN) in 2013, I had no idea how much my life was about to change. To say that this school changed the trajectory of my life is not an understatement.

Is Organic Meat Better For You- All The Answers!

March 21, 2019 By jaclyn Leave a Comment

is organic meat better

Most likely you’ve heard the saying, you are what you eat. Well, that may be partially true, but an even truer saying is – you are what you eat, eats. That saying is of course from the one and only Michael Pollan, a big proponent of eating natural foods. And while I advocate for a label-free way of eating and I indulge here and there in foods that may not be 100% natural, for the most part, I stick to a natural foods type of kitchen. And that includes buying organic, pastured or grass-fed meat. But do you need to buy organic meat and what is up with all the different labels on meat these days? What do they really mean? I’ll be answering that in this post and I hope you find it helpful, so let’s get to it…

all about collagen

Are you confused about collagen? Marine, bovine, flavoured or unflavoured… it seems there are so many to choose from. And what exactly are the proven benefits of them? With so much nutrition information out there it can feel overwhelming even for someone like me whose job it is to know all the things. Although let’s be honest, I definitely don’t know all the things, but I do try and gather as much information as possible so that I can inform and educate. Today’s post is all about collagen and I hope that this can inspire you to make a decision about whether or not you want to make collagen a part of your health journey.

Super Seed Crackers with Nori: Vegan & Gluten Free

November 27, 2018 By jaclyn Leave a Comment

super seed crackersHave you ever made your own crackers? I have a few times before, but they were never worth blogging about because frankly they took longer than I wanted and you could get decent options elsewhere. So these super seed crackers are GOOD! They are loaded with, you guessed it- seeds. And so many seeds too! Plus I added in some extra fibre with the psyllium husk too. Also, there are so many minerals from the nori which is one thing that I find so many people are missing from their diet. …

Vegan Cauliflower Soup: Winter is Coming

November 8, 2018 By jaclyn 2 Comments

Yum

vegan cauliflower soupOne of my favourite things about winter is soup. Without a doubt, I absolutely adored soup growing up and craved it more than anything, not just chicken noodle soup when I was sick either. So it was actually quite surprising when I thought about the fact that I haven’t shared many soup recipes over here. And for that I must apologize and just know that I will do better going forward. I am starting to make up for this with my vegan cauliflower soup. I do think that this is a good starting point and we can move forward from here….

Instagram post 2179551065752867618_1635839696 Apple crisp in muffin form?! Yup 😍. These apple cinnamon muffins are now up on the blog and they are delicious 🤤. I played around with the recipe a few times to get them just how I wanted them and it was worth it. My freezer is now stocked with apple muffins but no complaints about that 😏. These babies are gluten free, and can easily be made paleo if you need.
.
I can’t decide if the best part is the crumb topping or the coconut butter 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. What do you think? Check out the link in my profile to get the full recipe 🙌🏻.
Instagram post 2176472771423864407_1635839696 I’m back with another freezer friendly meal option and this time it’s in the form of tacos, your welcome 🌮. It’s true- I made these 30 minute @instantpotofficial pork carnitas and froze most of it for another day. Because I’m cooking for one, that means I have to be extra mindful of food waste and I like preparing things that can freeze well. For these, just take the leftovers out of the freezer the night before and let it defrost. Then crisp them in the oven on broil after. Easiest and most delicious tacos for any day of the week, yes please 👌🏻😍.
.
Just make sure to have all the toppings for your tacos to make weeknight tacos extra easy. I like adding some smashed avocado to the base and some extra veggies like 🌽🌶. Full recipe for these tacos is on my site, the link is in my bio ☺️.
Instagram post 2175747225744118157_1635839696 I made this again last week and froze leftover sauce for whenever the next craving hits, which won’t be long now 🙊. This savory butternut squash pasta sauce is THE most popular recipe on my blog for a reason. And the fried, crispy sage is the perfect addition. If you want to make it too, check out the full recipe up on my site. The link is in my bio!
.
What are you making big batches of to freeze this winter?
Instagram post 2172121348544170556_1635839696 What’s in your top five fave types of cuisines? One of mine is Thai food for sure! The flavours are so balanced and delicious, plus the spices... yes please 👌🏻. So I simply had to create one of my fav Thai dishes - red curry coconut chicken. Because if I’m being honest, as much as I love Thai food and takeout, it doesn’t always love me back, digestively speaking. This creamy coconut Thai chicken curry is a little different bc I added lots of veggies to it (three different ones to be precise 🙈). I’ve got the full recipe up now and if you prep a few things ahead of time, this can come together pretty easily.
.
.
Oh and my list of top five cuisines for anyone interested is as follows: Italian, Thai, Mexican, Japanese and Chinese. I’d love to know yours, lmk in the comments 💗.
Instagram post 2170853918232705508_1635839696 Portable and savoury oatmeal muffins are pretty much my fave item to meal prep for breakfast. Not only are they super easy to whip up, but they freeze well too. You can serve them with a fried or poached egg on top if you want 👌🏻. They’re such a nice change from sweet oatmeal or overnight oats. If you feel like you need to switch things up, definitely check out the full recipe on my blog!
.
Should I create a sweet version of these oatmeal cups next?! 🙊😜
Instagram post 2169316390656561555_1635839696 Have you jumped on the oat beverage bandwagon yet? [#Ad] I myself, am fully on board! Especially with the new @silk_canada Oat Yeah beverage. One of the reasons I have made the switch to oat is because of the taste and creaminess. Because for the most part, I use milk in my morning matcha and other lattes and I love when it gets frothy and creamy. And nothing gets it creamier or frothier than @silk_canada’s oat beverage (for real, I couldn’t believe it- check out my stories!). You can choose from three different and delicious flavours (plain, vanilla and chocolate). I used the vanilla in these pumpkin chocolate oatmeal bars and it worked like a dream. You can make them sweeter with a drizzle of chocolate on top (yes please!). If you want to check out the full recipe for these plant based oat bars, head over to my blog to check it out! #SilkCanada #OatYeah #YeahSayer #Oat
Instagram post 2164037086641142676_1635839696 Did I just upgrade hummus?! You bet I did. This creamy, smooth butternut squash hummus is what dreams are made of 💯. I added the most flavourful toppings to make it super savoury and I haven’t been able to stop eating it, alongside some of those new @marysgonecrackers of course (if you know, you know!).
.
So what did I add to this hummus exactly? I made some of my own dukkah, which is an Egyptian nut and spice blend that is typically served with bread or fresh veggies. I’m telling you- if you’ve never tried it, you NEED to make some. It’s super easy to make and you will want to top everything with it after 🤤. I also fried some sage and added some pomegranate to it. And WOW is it ever good! I’ve got the full recipe for the hummus, the dukkah and all my tips to making the creamiest hummus up on my blog now. Just click on this link in my bio and tap on this photo to check it out 😍👌🏻.
.
Are you a hummus monster like me? Any unique flavour combos that you’ve tried and loved?! Share below 💗
Instagram post 2160672182467211164_1635839696 I’m already thinking of making another batch of these pecan chocolate chip cookies and it’s been less than two weeks since I last made them. They’re soft in the middle with lots of melty chocolate chips and crunchy pecans and they go great with a glass of milk 🥛. I’m pretty sure they’re my new fave cookie recipe but that won’t stop me from thinking up new flavour combinations...
.
Do you have a fave cookie flavour that you’d like me to try and make? If so, lmk in the comments. In the meantime, go check out the recipe for these and if you make them, tag me!
Instagram post 2159227052237302074_1635839696 It couldn’t be easier to make these @instantpotofficial pumpkin steel cut oats. I made a big batch of it to enjoy all week 🎃🎃. I love that I have steel cut oats ready in 20 minutes and I can easily re-heat them on the stove after. The creaminess from the pumpkin along with the spices makes this recipe perfect for fall. And to make it extra fun, I highly suggest adding some chocolate chips, pecans and any type of granola you have on hand. Thank me later when the chocolate chips melt in your oats ☺️👌🏻.
.
If you want the full recipe and how-to, you can check the recipe on my blog.
.
Do you have a favourite breakfast item to meal prep?
Instagram post 2157520330766521792_1635839696 Yesterday was national pasta day, and if you know me, you know how I feel about pasta 🤤. I don’t think there is another meal that is more comforting than pasta. Smother it with some kind of creamy sauce and seared scallops like this one and I am all 😍. I made the sauce dairy free by using cashews but you wouldn’t be able to tell one bit.
.
If you struggle with making scallops, I’ve got all the tips for making them perfect every time. They’re expensive af, so I get why most people are scared to cook them. It’s all about using the right equipment like a cast iron pan and not overcooking them. You can head to the link in my bio to find out how to make this creamy pasta with seared scallops. It would make the perfect fancy dinner night in.
.
What’s your go to type of pasta? I love penne, rigatoni and fettuccine the most.
Instagram post 2156789179919704086_1635839696 It’s seafood month people! I am a BIG fan of seafood and fish in general so you know I am always down to celebrate. And this month, I partnered with @mscbluefish to share more about finding and supporting sustainable seafood. When you choose fish products that are MSC certified that means you are supporting seafood that is wild, traceable and of course sustainable. So I always look for that little blue MSC checkmark ✔️. There are tons of sustainable seafood options available in the canned, fresh and frozen sections (and at the fish counter).
.
I chose to use some @mscbluefish smoked salmon to make a five minute smoked salmon dip. I even used some cashew cream cheese to keep it dairy free, although you can use regular cream cheese too. To get all the deets on how to make this plus some almond crusted cod fish fingers, check out the full blog post up on my site. I’m also sharing all the tips to create your own SEAcuterie board 😂.
.
Fav type of seafood? Mine has to be scallops! #AD #FeelGoodSeafood #NationalSeafoodMonth #MSCbluefish
Instagram post 2153099316439702804_1635839696 Happy national pumpkin pie day! Although this isn’t a pie, it does contain pumpkin and that has to count for something, right? 🤷🏻‍♀️
.
I’ve got quite a few pumpkin recipes up on my site if you want to check them out, including donuts, these no bake pumpkin bars, pumpkin spice granola and instant pot pumpkin steel cut oats. These bars take a little time to make because of the layers, and they’re messy, but omg they’re delicious. And I don’t care if after all of it I have pumpkin on my face. But maybe don’t eat it on a first date 😜. Or do it and see what happens 🤣.
Instagram post 2151800087289192276_1635839696 I feel like the Cookie Monster 👹 lately with all the baking I’ve been doing. But with thanksgiving coming up this weekend here in Canada, I think these pecan chocolate chip cookies would make a great addition. Or you could just bake them and eat them two at a time like I’ve been doing, whatever works 🍪😬.
.
If you’re after that melty, decadent, sweet and salty combo I think you’ll love these. Flaky sea salt is not optional! These cookies are on the softer side, so if you’re team soft cookie rather than team crispy, you’ll want to make these 😍. I used @lees.provisions ghee for these which gives them a rich flavour but you can use regular butter if you want. And they’re also gluten free too if you need that in your life. Find the full recipe now up on my blog, just click the link in my bio.
.
Tell me- are you team soft cookie or team crispy cookie? 🧐🤔
Instagram post 2148996663921320319_1635839696 Goes to @parallel_brothers once and runs home to recreate their parallel salad 🙃😍. This kale salad is loaded with all the things, like sweet potato, lentils, walnuts, green onions, mint and goat cheese. For the goat cheese I kept it dairy free and used a delicious cashew cheese from @vegnatureng. This cheese is legit 💯 and slices just like goat cheese would. Top it off with a bright and beautiful beet tahini dressing and you have got yourself one amazing salad.
.
If you want the full recipe I’ve got it up on my site now! Just click the link in my bio and tap on this photo.
.
Are you a kale salad fan?
Instagram post 2145995555162454759_1635839696 If you liked my savory oatmeal muffins, you’re gonna love this savory granola. Or you’re like- this girl lost her mind 🤯.
.
But for reals this seedy granola is not like your typical granola, but for lack of a better word that’s what I’m calling it 🤷🏻‍♀️. They are cheesy little clusters of seeds and they make the BEST topping. Top your soup, salads, bowls or slices of toast with them (or just eat it by the handful) and see what I’m talking about.
.
The full recipe is up on my site now and you can whip it up in about 20 minutes. Are you down to try this savory seedy granola??
