I am sure you have seen the Instant Pot all over the place for a while now. I felt the same way, but didn’t quite understand why everyone was using it. So when Amazon had prime day, I scooped it up (for a good price) and haven’t looked back since. I have been using it for several months and thought it was time to do a little Instant Pot review. It’s my goal to share with you all the benefits, pros and cons and everything in between. This Instant Pot review is 100% my honest opinion and I hope it will be helpful for you. …
No Bake Pumpkin Bars: Vegan and Paleo
I’ve got two new recipes this week, who am I?! Sometimes, the recipe ideas just come in waves and I am riding it this week. I created these no bake pumpkin bars with a couple ideas in mind. First I wanted some layers in there to make it look pretty, but I also wanted each layer to serve a purpose and taste amazing. I used my previous no bake peanut chocolate bars as an idea when I created these, but changed the ingredients to reflect a more fall inspired approach. And since they are no bake, they are relatively easy and pretty foolproof if I do say so myself. …
Gluten Free Baked Pumpkin Donuts
Funny thing, I never used to like donuts. Does that make me weird? I hope we can still be friends. Well, either way, they just weren’t my thing. From a young age, everyone here (in Canada) loves to get these little donuts called timbits (from Tim Hortons) and I would always turn my nose up at them. It actually wasn’t until Krsipy Kreme made its way to Canada that I actually liked donuts. At the time, in high school when it first came to Canada, it was all the rage. So my friends and I would head over, eat the donuts while we waited for our order and then go home with a dozen or so. There was something about a Krsipy Kreme that made me actually like donuts. Does that make me more American than Canadian?! I don’t know. But I haven’t had a Krispy Kreme in years and probably won’t anytime soon because they are super sweet and I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. So that’s why I created these gluten free baked pumpkin donuts. I wanted something that wasn’t overbearingly sweet and not fried. So I put my baking hat on (I don’t actually have a baking hat) and got to work. …
How a Weekly Meal Planner Can Help with Intuitive Eating
Although it may seem like meal prep and planning doesn’t fit into the intuitive eating philosophy, I don’t think that’s the case. By having a weekly meal planner, it can significantly lessen the burden of what to eat, and, if done correctly it can be part of your intuitive eating journey as well. Gone are the days of having the same boring meals everyday, lifeless salads and grilled chicken. Meal prep and having a weekly meal planner can actually be fun and part of a healthy lifestyle, promise. …
Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats: Vegan Pumpkin Pie Flavour
I am usually late to the game when it comes to new trends. So in staying with this theme, it only makes sense that I very recently added an Instant Pot to my life. I got it in the summer and have really begun using it more and more now that fall is here and winter is coming (yes that is a GOT reference). But, I can totally see why people are raving and loving their Instant Pots, they make cooking a lot easier and so much quicker. I was so impressed when I made these Instant Pot steel cut oats in only minutes. Plus the best part, is that you just set it and it does its thing, you don’t need to hover over the stove, stirring and watching the oats cook. …
Vegan Creamy Pasta Sauce: Dairy Free And Gluten Free
Have you ever just dreamed up a recipe in your mind only to make it and be completely blown away?! Enter this vegan creamy pasta sauce, because yes, dreams really do come true. For this recipe I wanted to use up the last of the local (in-season) tomatoes from Ontario. I wanted to create something that was not only delicious, but also dairy-free for those that have to (or choose to) avoid it. The roasted tomatoes in this recipe truly make it taste so much better and even though this recipe takes a bit longer to make, it’s worth it. …
Grain Free Pumpkin Granola: Get the Recipe!
This whole week has been an up and down rollercoaster, but one of the things that went really well was baking this grain free pumpkin granola. It sounds silly when you think about it, but for me, baking and cooking and being in my kitchen is my happy place and when everything feels like it’s going to shit, it picks me back up. What works for you? When things just don’t seem to be going right and it is out of your direct control, how do you cope? I know I have written about different ways to deal with stress and anxiety before and I find all of those very useful. But nothing beats having some comforting food around, even better when you spent some time making it yourself. …
Weight Loss and Intuitive Eating: Why They Don’t Work Together
Weight loss and intuitive eating, do they belong in the same sentence? As intuitive eating becomes more and more popular in the health and wellness scene I have noticed that some are confusing intuitive eating as another diet. They place restrictions and rules where none should exist and some even seek it out to lose weight. As a Holistic Nutritionist, I used to feel that I should be promoting weight loss because weight = health, or so I thought. It turns out, there is so much more than that and weight loss truly is not the answer we’ve all been searching for. The weight loss industry takes up a massive chunk in the health and wellness space and even when the term weight loss isn’t quite as prominent, it is often times the underlying message. The term “Get Healthy” is often times followed by a thin white woman holding a pair of jeans away from her toned stomach to show how she lost all that weight. And so somehow along the way getting healthy has become synonymous with weight loss. How did we get here?…
Paleo Chocolate Pudding with Gelatin
Curious about collagen, or what about gelatin? In this blog post I am sharing with you my favourite paleo chocolate pudding made with gelatin and coconut milk. As much as I love my chocolate chia avocado pudding, I wanted to create something a bit different. I tasted a very similar version of this pudding at one of my favourite healthy restaurants in Toronto and knew that I wanted to recreate this at home. It took a couple of tries, but I figured out a way to make it that I think you will absolutely love too. …
Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Wings (Made Healthy)
I must confess, I have a thing for chicken wings. Especially these crispy honey garlic chicken wings. The part I love the most is that they are baked and they only take about 40 minutes to cook. The honey garlic sauce is also so delicious and if you are like me and like a bit of heat, don’t skip the chili flakes. Overall, these chicken wings can be served up for any occasion and not just your typical foodie situations, like football. Because I don’t watch nor understand anything about football, but I do know food and these are damn good. …
