Hi loves! I wanted to do a quick blog post (that of course is anything but short *facepalm*) on all the things I am loving lately. Mainly, this list is all of my favourite summer beauty essentials that I go back to again and again. I find that sometimes it can be overwhelming with all the things to buy, find and try. Especially with Amazon Prime Day this past week, it can feel like consumerism is taking over. So with that being said, I want to share the things I REALLYYYYY love and if you are looking to replace something, maybe this list can help inspire you.
I like Big Books and I cannot lie:
I am actually a big bookworm and always have been and have actually thought of doing some sort of book club in the past. Is that something you would be interested in? Let me know… anyways, I love reading. When I was little (in the first grade) I actually would spend free time, reading in a tub in the classroom. Ok, so there was a big white tub with pillows in our classroom at school that kids could use for reading time. I am pretty sure, I was the only one that used it and I would sit in there and read anytime I could. My teacher loved me, because I was so quiet and I was able to be by myself. Still to this day, I love alone time and curling up with a good book doesn’t hurt.
Here are the books I have been loving in July:
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Mark Manson: I could not stop giggling and reading this book on the subway. I love how the author breaks down that life can be fucked up sometimes and its ok. He tells it how it is and doesn’t sugarcoat anything, which I think is actually pretty refreshing. Once we understand our fears, limitations and expectations only then can we stop avoiding truths about ourselves and find the courage, perseverance, curiosity and forgiveness we seek. Seriously, this book is a game changer and I think that we can all use a dose of reality and humour in our lives.
You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, Jen Sincero: This book will totally change the way you look at yourself. It is designed to help you identify and change the self sabotaging beliefs and behaviours that are stopping you from getting what you want. If you want to start making money and put your damn fears aside, then this is the book for you. I am already looking at the follow up, You are a Badass at Making Money.
Summer Beauty Essentials:
Because it is summer, my skincare routine definitely looks a little different and so here are my summer beauty essentials.
Coola Sunscreen for the face: I have already written all about my love for Coola and finding and using cleaner sunscreen options here, so be sure to check that out. I just really love the tint on this one and find that in the summer I don’t need much more on my skin besides this and maybe a little RMS un-cover up and bronzer from Alima Pure, see below. Coola Sunscreen, for the body: Same as the one for your face above, the body sport version smells divine and works great! I am fairly light, so I need to protect myself if I will be in the sun for an extended period of time and this always does the job. It also doesn’t stay on white and blends really well for a natural sunscreen.
Alima Pure, Bronzer, Mauna Loa: Being a bit more fair, it has always been hard to find a good natural bronzer that stays on all day and suits my skin tone. I love using this one because rather than creamy ones, this one doesn’t just blend into my skin, which I noticed after using some cream ones in the past. For more of a review on this one, check out this post.
Chocolate Sun: This self tanning lotion is sooo nice! It doesn’t streak and will not turn you orange, just a beautiful and buildable shade of bronze. I use it on my legs mostly because I find that is where I like it the most. You can also read more about it here as well!
Olie Biologique: I am an oil and serum-a-holic it is true! Even in the summer, when my skin is less dry, I still apply this morning and night. I have tried a lot of oils and this one is top notch. And if you are a rose lover like me, then you will love this one too. It is a combination of rose oils, including rosehip, rose bulgar and rose geranium which helps to restore (and increase) radiance to dull, damaged and dry skin. I love how it hydrates my skin and helps get me glowing skin, without it ever feeling like it is sitting on top of my skin. This is super important to me because no one wants to look oily, right?! For this high quality of a product and the size of it, it is actually pretty affordable compared to other high end brands. As with all oils, always apply to damp skin or mix into your favourite moisturizer and don’t apply to dry skin directly. Otherwise, it won’t be fully absorbed. I like adding it to my serum (which is water based) or at night after I tone my skin and it is slightly damp.
Tata Harper, Floral Essence: I seriously love a good mist in the summer (actually any time of the year if I’m being honest). I am that girl, misting and spritzing herself any chance I get. I just love that it leaves my skin feeling and looking hydrated and dewy. The scent is soft and floral, which is just what I love. It also has hyaluronic acid which is great for anti-aging and leaving your skin looking plump and you know I am all about that. I use this all day, every day, meaning it works well over top of makeup too and kind of helps to set your look as well. Keep in mind, the one pictured here is a sample version, but I have previously used and bought the large one in the past- I love it!
May Lindstrom, The Problem Solver: I have written about this product before which you can read about here. To be honest, I consider this the holy grail of face masks as it works to immediately help with breakouts. Yup, immediately! When I sense I am getting some breakouts (or already have a few), I apply this face mask and it really helps with the inflammation and redness right away. If you are really dry, you can spot treat with this mask as well or combine it with the honey mud, another one of my faves.
Captain Blankenship, Mermaid Sea Salt Spray: Although I am in love with my new GHD hair dryer (it is superrrrr efficient at drying my thick hair), sometimes, when its hot and humid af out, I cannot be bothered to do my hair. It will literally turn frizzy in a matter of minutes, so no thanks! When I want a beach-y, wavy look, I apply this sea salt spray to slightly damp hair and I love the way it makes my hair look and feel. After I use this, I will set my hair with a little bit of Rahua hair spray. It provides the perfect beach-y look. Note that my hair is rather thick and naturally wavy so this works for my hair type, I can’t speak for any other hair types. And that rose scent, super dreamy and major mermaid vibes. It also comes in a shimmery gold shade too, if you are into it. This is what my hair looks like when I use the sea salt spray.
Rahua, Omega 9 Hair Mask: I LOVEEEEEE this hair mask. It has become an essential for me to use, especially since I started dyeing my hair about a year ago. I think regardless, whether or not you colour your hair, you should be protecting and nourishing it in some way. Sure, you can do a coconut oil hair mask, but personally, that shit takes like 3 washes to get out and I don’t have time nor money to spend on that (my shampoo is expensive). If your hair is dry at all, you need this mask. It nourishes your hair and afterwards it is so silky soft. You just apply it after you shampoo and leave it in for about 10 minutes in the shower, then wash out and apply a little bit of conditioner after like normal. I do this mask about once every two weeks and just cannot tell you how good it is. Seriously, everyone I know that has tried this loves it, and to be honest, I don’t much care for Rahua shampoo/conditioner… (although their new colour line is pretty good) but this mask is a game changer.
Random Summer Finds:
bkr water bottle: Staying hydrated from the inside out is so necessary at all times, especially in the summer. I love carrying around my bkr bottle because not only is it super cute, but it actually makes me want to drink more water. Sounds silly, but just having it with me makes me more liable to drink from it. You can put it in the dishwasher, just remove the little jacket on it and hand wash the lid. I cannot even tell you the amount of compliments I have received on mine (I have two and definitely wanting that nude or white spiked one next). Which one are you eyeing??

Nori Sheets: Have you seen my nori wraps?! I am OBSESSED. They are not only a healthy option but they are also damn tasty too. Plus, not having to turn the oven or stove on during the hot summer months is giving me life.
Ice Roller: I got this hack from one of my fave bloggers, The Skinny Confidential and she swears by this, so naturally I had to order it too. It is a great tool to have on hand in the summer as it instantly cools you down, literally. But more than that, it also helps to de-puff your face which is great in the morning when you wake up feeling a little less than stellar. Just keep it in the freezer overnight and you are good to go in the morning. Bonus, it also helps with wrinkles, dark circles and general inflammation or pain relief (say if you got too much sun).
Coconut fat bombs: As I embark on a more high fat, lower carb way of life, I am loving having on hand some coconut fat bombs for a snack if I need it. I use this recipe and if I am out of coconut butter, I will just use coconut oil and keep the rest the same. This will change the consistency a bit, but overall it is the same.
