About 2 years ago, I visited The Detox Market in LA and got a sample of Rare El’ements shampoo and conditioner to try. I had been happy with the products I was using but who turns down a free sample?! Not this girl, probably not any girl though to be fair. Anyways, I tried it and fell in love! Unfortunately for this Canadian, it wasn’t available at the Toronto location. I did ask about getting it in Canada, but it wasn’t possible at the time. So I went on with my hair care products, trying new brands here and there but always remembering the way this line left my hair feeling and looking. You can imagine my utter joy when it appeared at the Canadian store and I just knew that I had to have it!
After I took out a small loan to purchase this hair care duo, I hoped to the hair gods that the way I had remembered it had been correct. It had to be worth every penny, otherwise I was going to be disappointed. I am beyond happy to report that this exceeded my memory and it has been nothing but love ever since the first lather.
Behind the brand:
What do you get when you combine a well-known Beverly Hills salon owner and a fashion model? Magic, you get absolute magic! John Amato, the Beverly Hills salon owner wanted to develop a natural hair care line that would satisfy the demands of both beauty professionals and their clientele. He partnered with former model Teri LaVerne, who experienced the damaging effects of weekly styling they wanted to create a sophisticated hair care system that could offer a solution to the antiquated products, which merely camouflage damaged hair. The goal was to escape the ordinary and explore the wealth of natural healing elements that would help “reverse the signs of aging hair.” It took them years to determine what ingredients would produce products so rare and so pure that they would be able to treat the untreatable hair and scalp problems and bridge the gap between professional and natural hair care.
Lets review the products I purchased shall we?
Let me preface this by saying, I didn’t know how much I missed a good lather. This product lathers like NO OTHER natural shampoo I have ever tried. It really goes to work on the scalp and cleans it quite nicely while also getting rid of any buildup, but it does this ever so gently without any irritation.
So how does it do this you ask? Kalahari which is watermelon seed oil that comes from Africa, is a light penetrating melon oil that readily absorbs into the skin and hair to dissolve excess sebum build-up. This important benefit keeps the follicles from clogging and removes any impurities which can lead to thinning hair. It’s also very rich in omega 6 and 9 and helps balance the moisture of the hair while restoring elasticity. Also included in this shampoo is nutrient rich and healing black seed oil which contains 15 amino acids, vitamins A, B2, C as well as minerals and omega 6 and 9. Murumuru butter is rich in Vitamin A and C and omega 3 and 6 and this is what gives manageability AND helps control frizziness!! This is a must for me, especially in the summer as I have very thick, wavy hair that is prone to frizzies. Last, marula oil penetrates deep into the hair, restoring moisture loss, as well as providing a protective barrier which helps prevent further breakage and damage caused by styling. If you are anything like me, you blow dry your hair pretty much every week (twice weekly) then this helps to actually reverse that damage and protect your hair.
Ok, so the price point on this bad boy is steep I know. Trust me, I debated about it for quite a while, but ultimately I am so happy I made the decision to buy it. You only need the tiniest amount and you will feel the difference. Its so thick and creamy when you put it on, you instantly feel your hair become softer and it coats every strand to absolute perfection. This conditioner is especially beneficial if you have hair like mine that is thick, wavy and in need of moisture and hydration. If you have somewhat damaged hair, or have coloured it, this is the conditioner for you!
How does this conditioner work? Camelina oil is a super rich source of omega 3 and this helps to improve elasticity and improve hair shine, which helps to explain how my hair is so damn shiny and soft right now! Rosehip oil is ideal for the scalp and is great at strengthening weak and damaged hair and even mending split ends, something that I am also prone to getting even with getting regular trims. Baobab seed oil contains the same benefits of incorporating baobab internally, which I have written about here. Because of that high vitamin C content, it helps to slow down the aging process with antioxidants and protects against free radicals as well as soothes a variety of scalp conditions.
This mist is perfect for leaving your hair silky smooth and your locks ultra shiny. Just mist a couple of sprays onto your towel-dried hair and style as usual. The marula oil helps to condition and hydrate your hair which makes it look shiny and healthy. It can also be used on dry hair and on clean, dry skin as well which leaves your skin looking soft and supple. This also helps shape and style hair and is great for using before you style your hair as it offers some protection against heat and styling. This is also great for controlling frizzy hair as well! I really love spraying this on my hair and noticing how it helps with my fly-away hairs and leaves my hair looking nice and shiny.
All of these products are great and to me are definitely worth the price. I would never want to promote any product that I didn’t 1000000% believe in, use and love. That is not saying that other less expensive natural products don’t work or that I don’t like them, but this line and these products in particular stand out amongst the rest. Also, important to note that the price point isn’t so bad if you are conservative with the amount of product you are using and how often you are washing your hair. I only wash my hair about 2 times a week, at most 3. In between washes, I use a dry shampoo to get rid of any oiliness and keep my hair style looking fresh. So these items should last quite a while if you use them in this manner, the conditioner especially as you really don’t need a lot. Keep in mind I have A TON of hair and if I am only using a little, then most people with regular hair wont need much at all.
Hope you enjoyed this rare el’ements hair product review and if you have any ideas on products that you would like a review on, feel free to let me know.
I would love to know if anyone out there has tried this line and let me know what you think?
