If there is one green beauty indulgence I just can’t get enough of, it would have to be masks. I even have a name for it: face mask Friday and it goes down weekly, sometimes even more than once a week (because why not!?). Well I have tried so many, I thought it would be a good idea to do a little review and roundup of my favourite masks and why I choose different ones based on how my skin is looking and feeling. So without further ado, lets get to my favourite green beauty face masks on the market right now!
I thought I would categorize the masks based on what the benefit of using them is, so depending on your skin type and needs you can see what works best.

Break-outs/acne prone/hormonal skin:
Although my skin is more on the dry side, around that time of the month, I definitely get a few more breakouts than normal and so when that happens, I turn to more clay type masks that work to detoxify the skin and draw out excess oils and pimples.
I have written about this product before, but lets review why I like it so much especially when I need it the most (i.e. during breakouts). Made with raw cacao, charcoal, soil nutrients, salts and warming exotic spices that leave a little tingling sensation on your skin (it goes away, I promise) leaves your skin looking fresh and clean. It fights acne and breakouts and detoxifies the skin thanks to the charcoal. Because it comes loose and transforms with water, it also means that you get the best treatment every time as it is freshly made for you and only becomes potent the moment you make it. Now here is the best part- I used it recently when I felt one of those monster pimples coming under the skin and after I let the mask do its thing and took it off, the pimple was GONE! Completely gone! Honestly, I couldn’t believe how amazingly well it worked during this instance. If you are more prone to dry skin and feel like you can’t use this product all over, you can spot treat with it, or mix it with the honey mud so it isn’t as drying and use it all over. This is how I normally use it myself and this is also why I love May’s products so much, they are all so customizable and above all else- they work!
Sometimes my skin just doesn’t have that natural glow factor that I am obsessed with and can look a little dull and no amount of luminizer can really give you that glow from within. Usually this is when my diet has been a little less than adequate or I am dehydrated. So when this happens, I turn to a mask that is going to brighten my skin and give me back my glow.
This mask is all you need for glowing, clear and soft skin. If you have an uneven skin tone or just lacklustre skin, this product is great at bringing out that youthful glow we all want. It works similar to a peel (if you have ever had one) to provide an instant solution for dull skin without any irritation or burning that goes along with a traditional peel. The texture of your skin looks more even and your pore size looks reduced as it gets rid of debris and dead skin that is sitting on the surface of your skin. Your skin looks revitalized, feels soft and most importantly looks refreshed, glowing and even. Although the price point of this product is a bit high and the size is not quite as large as May Lindstrom, it really works well and if you want to give your skin more life, this product is great to have on your shelf!

My skin definitely tends to be more dry and although I know that often times I may not be drinking enough water (I am human after all), a good quality mask that rehydrates my skin is a must.
I have written about this mask before as well and for good reason, it is one of my absolute faves for slathering on my skin to get it hydrated. Made with raw honey, halloysite clay pure plant oils, this mask treatment is insanely hydrating as well as anti bacterial, anti inflammatory and anti microbial due to the raw honey. The texture is a whole other thing as it feels extraordinary on the skin and becomes addictive due to the way it makes your skin feel and look after a treatment. I like to leave this one for hours at a time, if I have the time and also leaving it on all morning and then washing it off last when I am in the shower. The enzymes in it help to restore hydration to the skin and leave it looking radiant and supple, just the way skin is supposed to look. It mixes really well with the problem solver and a bit of water if you need to combat certain skin issues (like breakouts). It also works as a cleanser, although, I prefer it as a mask and as a cleanser in the morning (sometimes) to refresh my skin, but not at night. Seriously, once you smell it, you want to eat it and then basically bathe in it, kind of like Cleopatra used to.
This was one of the first products I used when I switched my conventional products for cleaner ones and I was so impressed with how hydrated my skin felt after using it. To be fair though, I don’t use this as a traditional mask and wash it off after, nope, instead I use it as my day cream in the cooler months when my skin just can’t take the cold any longer. You can of course boost this with a serum (that is typically what I like to do) and then just leave a thin layer on my skin all day. Your skin is so hydrated after using it and it feels that way all day long which is a huge bonus. Its made with organic olive and jojoba oils that help replace the moisture and elasticity lost due to environmental damage (think our cold winter months!). It also has hyaluronic acid in it which has been proven to help with wrinkles and fine lines. This is a great option for those that want the benefits of a mask but maybe don’t want to bother with a traditional mask that they need to then wash off.

Sensitive/Redness and Irritated skin:
Although I don’t personally suffer from redness, rosacea of sensitive skin myself, working at The Detox Market, not a day goes by that I don’t have someone with this type of skin ask me what they can use. If you suffer from redness or sensitive skin, the MV skincare line is a fantastic option and I have used many of their products and absolutely love the results I have seen after using them.
After meeting Sharon, the founder of MV skincare I found myself curious to try more of her products, because before that I didn’t really think they were for me. I am so happy that I tried out more products from this line and especially this signature mask as it helps to get rid of any redness as well as it helps to even your skin tone while being very soothing and cooling. Once you put it on, your skin feels cool due to the kaolin clay and it doesn’t dry out your skin the way other clay masks can. The important thing to remember is that you always want to remove this before it is completely dry on the skin, otherwise it can feel tight and dry afterwards. So once the mask starts to harden on the outside of your face (the forehead and chin) but is still slightly damp on the cheeks, its time to rinse it off. This ends up being only about 7-10 minutes, which is quick and easy enough to do even when you are busy. It goes on perfectly with the brush and blending bowl which comes with the set.
Green Beauty Face Masks: The options are endless!
There are a lot of other masks out there, many of which I have probably tried. If it isn’t on this list then I either haven’t tried it or I have and didn’t find it effective. If you are going to spend the money on something, I think it should be a worthwhile investment and that is why I choose to do these types of reviews. If you are curious about any other products, let me know and if I tried it, I’ll let you know what I thought because as always, my opinions are my own.
