When you make breakfast that tastes like dessert but is actually healthy for you… (*mind blown*). These cherry overnight oats are insanely good and if you are already a fan of overnight oats then you are in for a sweet treat! When I tasted the first bite, it tasted like chocolate cake with cherries, which would be similar to black forest cake, except I always hated black forest cake so I don’t really know what to make of that. It is the best recipe for overnight oats I have ever tried and I have tried them all.
Cherries really do take the cake
I went to my favourite farmers market this past weekend and bought a huge basket of fresh cherries and got a mix of white and red ones. So naturally, my boyfriend and I ate about half of them just on their own when we got home, but I had to put them away after a while because honestly I could have eaten way more and that may not be such a good thing. Why you ask? Well, as great as cherries are they also can cause gas, bloating or diarrhea because they do contain quite a bit of fibre. Especially if you aren’t used to eating a lot of fibre, then this could be a problem for you if you overdo it with cherries. They are also packed with antioxidants, can help those suffering from gout and support a good night’s sleep due to the melatonin in them! So they are quite the superfood to incorporate into your diet especially when they are local and in season. These cherry overnight oats are just one way to have more cherries in your life and you won’t regret it one bit.

Overnight Oat Love
Have you experienced overnight oats before? The first time I had them, I could not believe how good they were! Growing up, I never really had oatmeal much, so when I decided to try overnight oats about 4 years ago, I didn’t know what to think. It was weird as you don’t cook them and they just soak in milk, but MY GOD, whoever came up with this idea is an absolute genius. They are so quick to make, nice and cool which is perfect for the hot summer weather and they are so incredibly versatile (like this dessert style version of cherry overnight oats) that I never get sick of them even after having them nearly every morning for work over the past 4 years. I really don’t know what I used to have besides this and chia puddings, well actually I do and most of the time it was a pumpernickel bagel with butter and cheddar cheese… yeah, this was pre nutritionist days.
Cherry Overnight Oats
So in case you are stuck on what to make for breakfasts, especially when its super hot out there, make this! You will be refreshed and cooled, as well as completely nourished and ready to take on your day! In addition to some cherries, I also added some strawberries and raspberries because I had them on hand, feel free to add your own combo. I hope you enjoy them.
For the coconut whipped cream, I used this method.
For the chocolate drizzle, I use these chocolate chips as they are dairy, soy and nut free.

If you have tried overnight oats, do you have a favourite combo?
- 1 3/4 cup dairy free milk (I use homemade hemp milk sweetened with dates, grab the recipe in my free eBook!)
- 2 tbsp. raw cacao powder
- 1 cup rolled oats (gluten free)
- 3 tbsp. chia seeds
- Pitted cherries for topping
- Coconut whipped cream
- Melted chocolate
- Combine your dairy free milk with the raw cacao powder and blend in your blender until combined.
- Pour your oats and chia seeds into a large bowl or dish and add in your milk.
- Let it sit overnight.
- Pit some cherries and cut up any other berries you want to add.
- In the morning, scoop out the oat mixture and add your berries on top with additional toppings of your choice.
- I highly recommend adding the coconut whipped cream and drizzle of melted chocolate on top as this really is the cherry on top!
